It's that time again, and Brian and I are more than happy to make ourselves perma-guests at Barbara's little spot by the beach in Oceanside. Mom is on the river in Sacramento, while Dad, Tom and Angela are rafting in Truckee and beaching it on the lake in Tahoe. A part of me is jealous of the glorious Sacramento heat and the quintessential Americana of the lake, but on the other hand the short drive and the abundance of both beach and relatives (the Lowes are here as well), makes Oceanside a very appealing spot. And so low-key!
Being in Oceanside again also makes me realize that a year has past since I relocated to Southern California. What a difference a year makes! Last year I was just entering into the limbo that was temp work at Cuesta Construction, stressing constantly about finding a "real" job, and stretching my meager salary beyond the realm of possibility. Now, we have a wedding half planned, a stable job, and the ability to kick back and completely enjoy the long weekend. Next year will bring even MORE changes and it is crazy to try and contemplate everything! (So instead, we went down to the beach and watched Camp Pendleton's fireworks. |
